Training Your Interpreters

Trainers are experienced interpreters who make this program instructive and enjoyable. The training consists of sharing experiences with your interpreters, and discussing our situations have been handled, and comparing notes.

Overview

Our program provides quality interpreting education with the goal to graduate competent and professional health care interpreters. Our graduated interpreters provide quality language access to LEP patients and health care providers by eliminating language barriers and creating cultural awareness.

To qualify for acceptance into this program, candidates must:

  • Pass a language proficiency test in both primary and secondary languages
  • Have at least one year experience as an interpreter

At the end of the training graduates will:

  • Have mastered interpreting skills
  • Have excellent knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body and general knowledge of the different medical procedures and protocols
  • Be able to identify and help overcome any barrier that could lead to confusion between provider and LEP
  • Be HIPAA compliant
  • Have been screened for Tuberculosis, Mumps, Rubeola, Varicella, Rubella
  • Receive a certificate of training and identification badge which will have to be renewed every two years
  • Be well trained Qualified Health Care Interpreters, ready to serve providers and their patients professionally and accurately

Our program meets the guidelines of the California Health Care Interpreters Association (CHIA) and the National Standards of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).

Duration: 16 Hours
Schedule A: 8 hours a day, 2 days or
Schedule B: 4 hours a day, 4 days
