The test is both oral and written, and determines whether the candidate has:

Native Fluency Definition

Self evident.

Near Native Fluency Definition

Those in this category usually are second or third generation who grew up in a family that spoke the language, but had the children speak English so that they would adapt faster to the United States. They can communicate in the language very well, but their level of proficiency may be that of an adolescent rather than someone who can use it at work.


Tested for understandability.

Medical Terminology

Candidates are tested on their knowledge of medical terminology in English as well as the secondary language.


The total length of time of the Oral is about 60 minutes.

Methods of Testing

The oral part is conducted by telephone.

Written Test

The written part will have been supplied to the client via email, and the completed test would be faxed to the test center. This test consists of 5 topics and the candidate chooses one topic only. This will be a maximum of 250 words, and should take between 45 minutes to one hour to complete. Topics will vary according to the work background of the participant and will be known to the participant only on the day of the test.

All information is kept in strictest confidence. The examining linguists will not have the name of the candidate, and are not permitted to ask the candidate any personal information.


The test is designed to avoid any identification of the candidate’s ethnicity, religion or age, in compliance with any State or Federal Laws.

Once the test is completed, the client will receive a report defining the Level of Fluency for the Oral and Written, each as a separate report. The reports are certified by International Effectiveness Centers.

Results given in 48 hours.
